Since we've been doing some work on a timeline we need a time system in place to make sense of the time line.
Esper Elemental Flow
With the Elements playing a big role in the world I came up with the concept of Element Flows that the Espers used to keep time. An Elemental Flow is a cycle of changing elements from Fire to Earth to Water to Wind to Fire and so on.
I figure there are 2 main "Flows." The first would be the Long Flow. This would be the one that takes the longest to cycle through. This one would be equivalent to what we call seasons (Air=Spring, Fire=Summer, Earth=Fall, Water=Winter). One cycle of this flow would be considered an Elemental Year.
The Second flow is short enough that it cycles about 5 to 6 times during one element of the Long Flow. This one would essentially create what we would call days. However this flow is not constant and the length each element is in effect varies. Generally the same element in the short flow as the long flow lasts much longer (3-4 HI days) while opposing elements can be fairly short (half a HI day).
In addition to Espers using the flows to track time they can also have an effect on the weather. (Both flows on fire tend to have hot days, Both flows on Water tend to lead to rain, etc).
HI Solar Calendar
With the elemental flows not being very consistent in terms of how long they last and almost every human (99.5%) not able to sense the elemental flows and the anti-esper sentiments going around. HI quickly realized they were going to need some kind of time tracking standard. Eventually they decided on a simple system every human can observe. (Pretty much the same as our system) When the sun comes up dark(night) ends and light(day) starts, when it goes down light ends and dark starts. Each of these cycles constitutes a day and a year is comprised of a certain number of days.
note: even though the light and dark elements don't have any affect on the day/night cycle. HI decided to call it light and dark to help people with the transition of an element based system to a sun based system.
