Notice
First and foremost, I've said it before and I'll say it again. This D&D campaign will be it's own universe. so there will be no direct ties to any existing RPG or RP's. (That's not to say there might not be any influences, but no direct connection)(That's also not to say you can't use character backgrounds from your other RP's, you'll just have to make sure you can tailor it to the campaign)

Guild Information
For the purposes of this campaign, I have decided that for the most part we work for a guild (Either a member of the guild or friend/family of a member of the guild and just helping out). At the moment I've decided to let us decide on the name of the guild as a group. I'm not against calling the guild NON if that's what is decided, I'm just putting out the option for any name.
The guild has dorm rooms for members to sleep in when they're not out taking quests. There will also be a shop in the guild that will sell a variety of items as well as a few things that might not be found in the shops in the rest of the city (As well the shops in the city will have items the guild shop might not have). Members of the guild will receive a slight discount at the guild store.
The most important part of the guild (for us anyways) is the Quest Board (represented by the Quest Board sub-board on this website). Clients near and far can posts quests up on the quest board for guild members to attempt. Also sometimes members of the guild itself put up quests if they need help with something (Basically if anybody wants to put up a personal quest, whether it's personal to you or just want help obtaining a certain magic item, feel free to post it to the quest board).
For the location of the guild, we can either create a town/city to stick it in (which we'll have to come up with a name for as well). Or we can stick it in the town of Fallcrest since that's where the first quest will be taking place.

Character Backgrounds
For your individual character backgrounds that are related to the guild and town/city you'll have to decide how you're related to the guild (Whether you're a member, just a friend/family of a guild member, or some other relation). You'll have to decide why you became a member (or just helping out) of the guild (Looking for work? fame? heard stories of the guild? other reasons?). And determine how/why you came to the town/city the guild is located (Did you grow up in the town/city? Travel to the town/city and are living there temporary/permanently? or any other reason of your choosing).
For your general character backgrounds you can have whatever you want. If you're having trouble with ideas, I find answering the questions provided in Players Handbook 1 in the first chapter a good start.
Those questions are:
* Why did you decide to be an adventurer?
* How did you acquire your class? (If you’re a fighter, for example, you might have been in a militia, come from a family of soldiers, or trained in a martial school, or you might be a self-taught warrior.)
* How did you acquire your starting equipment? (Did you assemble it piece by piece over time? Was it a gift from a parent or a mentor? Do any of your personal items have special significance?)
* What’s the worst event of your life?
* What’s the best thing that’s ever happened to you?
* Do you stay in contact with your family? What do your relatives think of you and your chosen career?
You don't have to answer all or any of the above questions if you don't want to. but like i said above, they can give you a good start on brainstorming ideas for your character background.
